The History of Polenköy

The history of the village Polenköy begins 40 years ago in the Turkish province Denizli, in Çivril, which also is referred to as the “Green” Çivril. The landscape represents waterfalls in the hillsides, the oaks in the hills, vineyards, and a rich flora.
Everything started with a queen bee and a handful of worker bees leaving their hive to found their own kingdom on a walnut tree in a backyard of a house.
In the course of time the handful of bees turned into hundreds of thousands of bees. In a couple of decades one beehive turned into tens of thousands of beehives. The bees flew from land to land and landed on flowers on plateaus, plains, foothills. Flying from flower to flower and carrying the pollens on their legs, the bees delivered the healthy honey we eat today. However, they didn’t stop guiding us to produce more natural products; molasses made out of grapes from the vineyards and tahini made out of sesame from the fields. On some days the bees landed on strawberries and blackberries, on some days they landed on cherries, figs, apricots and quinces which lead to different kinds of delicious jams. The busy bees never got tired, they landed on olive trees and gave us pickled olives and the golden oil that we use in our dishes. Who knows which plants they land on in the future and which savors they will bring to our
tables. One thing is for sure: They brought happiness and health to thousands of households.

Thousands of plants were pollinated. The pollens became products. These products became very delicious delights in their most natural way.

Bon appetit!
